The S$15 million (US$10.1 million) facility, located at Changi, is expected to provide managed IT services to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and multinational corporations in Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

For cost-conscious SME customers, the 7,400 sq ft centre offers a utility based pricing model, where server monitoring and network administration charges are levied based on usage levels. This model is available to customers seeking to host up to five servers.

"Singapore is one of the best countries for Fujitsu [to expand its regional presence]," said Masaki Kajiyama, president (Singapore Operations), Fujitsu Asia. "The country is developed with highly trained people, although slightly more expensive."

The centre, which has been operational for a month, primarily hosts new customers of Fujitsu. Kelvin Ng, senior manager, services and solutions, Fujitsu Asia, said some existing customers had expressed an interest in migrating over to the new facility.

Fujitsu's two other data centres in Singapore, located in Ayer Rajah and Tampines, are legacy based and acquired at a total cost of less than S$10 million.
