First details on Tony Hawk: Shred

13.08.2010
Following its E3 2010 announcement, the curtain has finally been pulled back on the latest installation in Activision's long-running Tony Hawk series of skateboarding sims -- Tony Hawk: Shred.

Developed by Robomodo and Buzz Monkey, the studios behind 2009's peripheral-based , Shred is set to include a blend of both skateboarding and, in a series first, snowboarding action for players of all ages. Shred looks to utilize Ride's motion-sensing board controller with the goal of "enticing kids to get off the couch and into the action."

"Tony Hawk: Shred is all about experiencing over-the-top, almost unbelievable 'go big' moments throughout the game -- the kind of tricks and stunts that we can only hope to achieve as our sports continue to evolve," said pro-skateboarder Tony Hawk in the press release. "I'm also excited about including snowboarding in Shred, because when we originally came up with the board motion-controller, we didn't just have skateboarding in mind, and it's nice to finally see that idea coming to fruition."

Shred is set to offer up playable versions of a number of real-life pro skateboards and snowboarders, including Tony Hawk, Lyn-z Adams Hawkins, Corey Duffel, Sean Malto, David Gonzalez, Geoff Rowley, Stevie Williams, Chaz Ortiz, Travis Rice, Louie Vito, and Olympic Gold Medalist Torah Bright. The Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 versions are also set to allow players to take their Miis and Avatars to the slopes or streets.

While failed to make a splash with critics following its 2009 release, here's hoping that Shred is able to re-capture the innovative and creative nature of the series' earlier installments. Tony Hawk: Shred is set to release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Nintendo Wii consoles this holiday season.
