New tools for pinpointing and repairing problems in Microsoft Exchange e-mail environments are arriving on the market from DYS Analytics Inc. and Zenprise Inc.

Zenprise, a new company unveiling its first product, introduced a tool designed for real-time, automated diagnosis and resolution of operational problems in Exchange environments.

The Zenprise product uses a combination of algorithms to predict and resolve performance issues. The Correlation algorithms intelligently group all symptoms discovered across an Exchange environment, according to Zenprise officials. Causation algorithms match correlated symptoms to several potential causes and automatically run tests to determine the underlying cause of application and performance problems. Finally, Correction algorithms give resolution instructions customized to each environment.

The Causation and Correction algorithms use another feature in Zenprise, called a Symptom Database, which catalogs all known Exchange symptoms and their causes, Zenprise officials said. The database is automatically updated when a new Exchange-related problem is discovered.

Other features in Zenprise include application-aware management, predictive analysis, and the capability to integrate with existing monitoring systems such as Microsoft Operations Manager, NetIQ"s AppManager, HP OpenView, CA Unicenter, and IBM Tivoli.

Next week, DYS Analytics plans to roll out a Desktop Edition of its Email Control product for Exchange environments. Designed for companies with as many as 5,000 users, Email Control Desktop Edition combines real-time probing and message reporting with historical transaction analysis to help IT departments diagnose, localize, and troubleshoot Exchange performance problems.

New features in Email Control Desktop Edition are TrackNow and InvestigateNow. TrackNow performs real-time analysis of user transactions as well as its own synthetic transactions and reports on status of selected messages and users. It indicates message delivery status and how messages are being routed through a network. InvestigateNow provides historical reporting and information about e-mail usage.

Email Control Desktop Edition will be available in late June, priced at US$4,995 per installation.
