ECM competition heats up

Competition is heating up in the enterprise content management (ECM) market with Interwoven claiming it has migrated 360 Hummingbird customers across the globe in the past three years.

The company's Australia/New Zealand managing director Chris Lynch said Interwoven is now the number one solutions provider to legal firms in Australia and the goal is to extend this leadership to consultants and accountants.

A spokesperson for Hummingbird said the company doesn't respond to "spurious claims" from competitors about market share, pointing out that research firm Gartner rates Hummingbird well ahead of Interwoven.

Lynch, who left Hummingbird three years ago to join Interwoven, said, "Expect to see a couple of deals in the next few months with seats in excess of 2000."

To accommodate recent growth Interwoven has increased local head count from nine to 15. Lynch said Interwoven has 350 customers locally including 10 state government agencies and more than 60 councils in Queensland.

"Australia has the most mature record management market in the world, but there is a lot of catching up to do when it comes to Web content management," Lynch said.
