During the April to September half, total Nintendo DS shipments surpassed 84 million units, besting the 81 million mark set by the Game Boy Advance. The feat makes the DS the second best-selling Nintendo handheld of all time, behind combined Game Boy and Game Boy Color sales, which sold 119 million units worldwide.
In related news, sales of the Wii and DS fell 40 percent in Japan but rose in the U.S. and Europe during the same period, Nintendo said Thursday. The company reduced its profit forecasts for the next quarter blaming a strong yen.
