Double Fine Now Sole Publisher of Psychonauts

is a great game that was unfortunately buried amidst a host of other titles on its original release. Featuring witty writing, excellent gameplay and memorable characters, it's one of Tim Schafer's most well-regarded games.

Anna Kipnis of Double Fine announced on earlier that the developer is now the sole publisher of Psychonauts, leaving original publisher Majesco behind. This means that purchasing a copy of Psychonauts from outlets such as or now means that the proceeds go directly to Double Fine rather than via a publisher. Obviously the distributor still takes a cut, but this arrangement does mean that more revenue is ending up with the developer rather than being lost paying for publishers' marketing departments to play golf or something.

So if you've never played Psychonauts and have enjoyed Double Fine's recent titles Costume Quest and Stacking, now's a great time to pick up a copy, as the developer will be able to plough the additional revenues into development of future titles, such as upcoming hybrid shooter Trenched.

UPDATE: Kipnis has confirmed via Twitter that this arrangement includes the version available via Xbox Originals on the Xbox 360 Marketplace.
