Dell looks to stay the course in South Africa

Dell SA managing director, Stewart van Graan, says the company's strategy for 2006 is not changing drastically. 'We have been consistent for the past 10 years in what we do, and will remain that way,' he adds.

According to Van Graan, the company will remain focused on four specific things, which include looking at what appropriate products the company can provide and push that into the market. 'We will continue our focus on the desktop, laptop and enterprise servers supply with the volume being driven by industry standards. We will not, however, move into the tablet and TV space, as some other companies have done,' he says.

Van Graan notes that the company will also look at expanding globally, mostly in Europe, which includes SA, and in China. He adds that Poland is a big new market for the company. In terms of local expansion he mentions that government is a continuing target.

Thirdly, the company will be stepping up efforts in improving customer experience. 'It will not just be happening at the sales level, but will be built into the entire company model.' He notes that having direct customer relationship instead of through channels also means that the company receives direct customer feedback, which helps in making customer's experiences more enjoyable.

Lastly, says Van Graan, Dell will remain focused on retaining its corporate culture, and continuously improving the way it looks after its people.
