Computer Sciences Corp. (CSC) plans to cut 1,800 jobs in North America, the company said Wednesday in a regulatory filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. CSC also said it plans to outsource 2,000 jobs to "certain lower cost regions."

The company plans to eliminate 1,300 jobs in 2007 and 500 in 2008, according to the filing.

In April, the company, based in El Segundo, said it would cut 5,000 jobs worldwide -- the majority of them in Europe -- to cut costs and improve efficiency. The company employs about 78,000 people worldwide.

In addition, CSC said it is considering closing some of its facilities, although the company did not name specific locations. It also said the restructuring program should cost about US$375 million in fiscal 2007 and 2008.

Last week, CSC reported a loss of $55 million in the first quarter. Revenues for the quarter were $3.56 billion.
