Computer Sciences Corp. has been awarded a US$42.3 million, four-year contract to provide Web hosting and applications support services to the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC), which shares technical information among Defense department personnel, contractors and other U.S. government agency workers.

Under the terms of the deal, El Segundo, Calif.-based CSC will host internal and external Web sites for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Defense Finance and Accounting Service, Washington Headquarters Services as well as other DOD offices and agencies, CSC said in a statement.

In addition, CSC said it will establish single sign-on network capabilities, implement connectivity for unique agency networks, support Web services, improve registration processes, and expand content management systems and Web portal offerings.

Approximately 50 CSC Web and applications developers, systems administrators and other IT professionals will perform the work at the DTIC headquarters at Ft. Belvoir, Va., and at other DTIC locations in the Washington area, supporting as many as 80 public, limited-access and classified Defense Department Web sites.

The new agreement, which has a two-year renewal option, follows a five-year, $25 million contract signed with the DTIC in 2001. Under that pact, CSC provides Web hosting support for various Defense Department Web sites.
