Computerworld honored for top publication, Web site

In a testament to the integrated nature of its print and online editorial operations, Computerworld last week was named 2006 Magazine of the Year and was given the gold award in the Overall Web Publication category by the American Society of Business Publication Editors.

At a national awards banquet held here in conjunction with the annual ASBPE conference, Computerworld received the print honor in the over-80,000 circulation division. The Magazine of the Year award in the under-80,000 circulation category went to CSO, marking the second time in three years that the top award was swept by publications of parent company International Data Group. Computerworld and CSO also won the Magazine of the Year awards in 2004.

The judges said Computerworld is "packed with so much useful information" and contains "relevant, useful graphics." There is "never a fluffy issue," they said, adding that what Computerworld does is "difficult for any monthly magazine, and they do it weekly." Judging was based on criteria that included writing, reporting and editing; usefulness to the reader; editorial organization; interaction with readers; and layout and design.

"This is a huge honor," said Don Tennant, Computerworld's editor in chief. "It says a ton about the talent and professionalism of the people whose hard work made this happen. They have a lot of fun, but when it comes to ensuring that our online and print readers get what they rely on us for, the editorial team is deadly serious."

In addition to the Magazine of the Year and gold Overall Web Publication honors, Computerworld received eight national awards for editorial content and three national awards for print design.

"Computerworld's strong showing at the ASBPE awards again this year is a testimony to the teamwork involved in living up to our 'Voice of IT Management' moniker," said Matthew Sweeney, Computerworld's president, publisher and CEO. "The quality and usefulness of our content -- in print, online and at our events -- are at the core of everything we do."
