The software, Asset and Work Management, tracks publicly owned, built and natural assets on the western Sydney suburban council's books measuring variables such as actual cost, maintenance and depreciation, and can display the information through a GIS (Geographical Information Systems)-enabled Web browser.

Eventually, according to Fairfield City Council IT manager Elios Alexoulis, the general public will be able to use the mapping feature.

Alexoulis said the reason behind selecting SPL WorldGroup was chiefly to consolidate different software platforms used to track physical assets.

"We use specialized software for roads and natural assets and this goes across those and consolidates all asset management into one system," Alexoulis said.

"The good part is the GIS interface we are using (Enlighten) is browser-enabled and the integration is quite easy to do. We intend to allow residents access so they can see where things are in the suburb."
