The Oriental Press Group, one of Hong Kong's largest publishers, has deployed Adobe's video streaming solutions for its online television service, on.cc.

Adobe Systems has announced that the news group selected the Adobe Flash Platform, including the US-based graphic company's Flash Media Server software, for streaming video on ontv, the company's online television service on its news and information Internet portal on.cc.

The on.cc portal combines content from two of the territory's largest daily newspapers, Oriental Daily News and The Sun, as well as streaming video content from their television service, including news, entertainment, sports, financial and commentary. According to an on.cc spokesperson, the site has 2.1 million unique viewers each month.

"During the planning stage, we took into account the changing behaviour of the Hong Kong audience and where the market demand was going. With 2.1 million unique visitors each month, it's clear that we were right. Audiences enjoy watching TV online, and their desire for streaming video will only increase," said Atung Kwok-tung Lee, deputy controller at on.cc.

Instant-on video experience

Along with scalability, fast and reliable content delivery was a key requirement for the streaming video solution. ontv's engineers knew the media server had to be able to deliver high-quality streaming to satisfy the audience's expectations. Adobe Flash Media Server provides instant-on video experiences, enabling users to view the latest news updates and popular programmes in real time.
