CA plans single sign-on integration

CA Inc. plans next week to announce integration of its SiteMinder extranet management product with its single sign-on enterprise access management tool. The integration would further extend single sign-on capability across the Web and client/server and legacy systems, which would cut costs and make it easier for companies to comply with government regulations, according to a CA statement.

A CA spokeswoman said the company has offered single sign-on across Web, enterprise and federated systems for about a year, but next week's announcement will mean that the technology will be integrated with SiteMinder, a product that CA received in its acquisition of Netegrity last year. No details on pricing or availability were announced.

Last week, IBM announced plans to use single sign-on software from Passlogix Inc. to bolster its password management offerings. Jonathan Penn, an analyst at Forrester Research Inc. in Cambridge, Mass., said IBM's offering was "significant." In general, the market demand for enterprise single sign-on tools is "red hot," Penn added.

Penn said companies competing with IBM and CA in the single sign-on arena include ActivIdentity Corp., Digital Persona Inc., Version3 Inc., Imprivata Inc. and Sentillion Inc.

Passlogix partners with RSA Security Inc. and Citrix Systems Inc. in addition to IBM, Penn added.

In general, customers are seeking integration of several products into a single product, Penn said. "We increasingly see our clients express a bias for a single vendor rather than select what might be best-of-breed products and face a big integration project," he said.
