Borland Software Corp."s New Zealand unit has sold the latest version of the company?s requirements management tool, Caliber RM, to Symantec Corp. for internal use worldwide.

It?s unusual for a worldwide deal to be done by a subsidiary of an international company but, according to Borland business development manager Michael Fooks, Symantec was happy for the deal to be driven out of New Zealand because its local development subsidiary was across the product.

Symantec had earlier been using version 4.2 of the product. It has bought version 7.0, which was developed after Borland acquired Caliber RM.

Fooks says large internationals such as Symantec have multiple development shops around the world, managing large and distributed projects, all wanting to access the same repositories, which Caliber RM facilitates.

?Their international people are also interested in our new project estimation tool, which is now included in Caliber,? he says.

Neither party would reveal the value of the deal.
