Shoring up IT management and governance capabilities in its ALSM (application lifecycle management) platform, Borland Software on Monday is set to announce its acquisition of software vendor Legadero and its Tempo technology.

Financial terms of the all-cash deal were not disclosed.

To be re-branded Borland Tempo, the software provides management of software demands, portfolio, processes, and resources in software development projects. Customizable dashboards provide executives, developers, and project managers with access to pertinent data.

Tempo capabilities will be bundled into Borland"s role-based Core SDP (Software Delivery Platform) for ALM in the first half of 2006. The product also still will be sold as a standalone offering.

"The reason we did this [acquisition] is this really fills out a key management layer for enabling customers to make software delivery more controlled and predictable," said Erik Frieberg, vice president of product marketing and strategy at Borland.

In existence since 2000, Legadero has had about 30 customers, according to Borland, which hopes to leverage the Legadero software in its competition with IBM in the ALM space.

Legadero capabilities also will be linked with the best practices for software development that Borland acquired when it bought TeraQuest earlier this year.
