BlizzCon tickets go on sale May 16

Blizzard Entertainment, makers of World of Warcraft, as well as the upcoming games Diablo III and StarCraft II, have announced that tickets for their annual BlizzCon event go on sale on May 16, 2009.

BlizzCon is Blizzard's annual gathering of gaming enthusiasts. This year it happens on August 21 and 22 at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, Calif. BlizzCon features tournaments and competitions of Blizzard game players, discussion panels, hands-on playtime with upcoming games and other activities.

Tickets will be priced at US$125 and will be available for purchase at the . A second block of tickets will be made available on May 30.

Blizzard also noted plans to make BlizzCon 2009 a Pay-Per-View event for the second year through Directv; customers can pay $39.95 to watch the event live, with a minimum of eight hours of HD coverage. What's more, for the first time, Blizzard plans to make the event available as an Internet video stream. More details are expected to be announced about that at a later date.
