Birds Beware: The Robo-Scarecrow Is Here

21.12.2010
Farmers rejoice! The Robo-Scarecrow is finally here for all your crop-protection needs! (Exciting, eh?) This DIY bird-scaring device was put together by the folks over at the German electronics retailer Conrad. You may have seen some of Conrad's other impressive geeky feats in the past, including the and the fairly ridiculous .

The retailer's latest endeavour sets out to solve many a farmers problem--pesky birds attacking valuable crops. Conrad's creative solution combines car audio equipment, along with a variety of differing lighting products--all presented in traditional scarecrow form.

When a unwanted bird approaches the seemingly normal scarecrow the robotic scaring begins. As the creation opens its arms, a warning cries "Achtung, Achtung!", and a flashing of lights and blasting of music soon begins. A blast of air, courtesy of a desk fan, has also been thrown in for good measure. Check it out:

Of course, thisa pricey solution for scaring birds, and the birds may wise up to its scare tactics eventually. However, it is without doubt an interesting use of readily-available technology.

Any geeky farmers out there fancy giving it a try?
