Australian PC monitor shipments up 15 per cent

Australian PC monitor shipments have risen 15 per cent in the April to June period of 2009, according to latest figures from research firm, IDC.

End of financial year purchases by businesses was the key contributor to the rise, IDC PC hardware associate analyst, Neville Chan said.

"Consumer demand was also strong, fuelled by the new 16:9 aspect ratio models released late in 2008," he added.

Year on year, Q2 shipments fell by 10 per cent in Australia, but the picture was more positive across Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan).

For the six months to the end of June, the region shipped 29.5 million units - a rise of 4.8 per cent over the first half of 2008 and 7.6 per cent up on the July to December period last year.

Australia, however, was likely to experience slow sales going forward, Chan said.
