Asura's Wrath Appears To Have Been Dreamed Up By Angry Child

is... striking, to say the least. You come away from an encounter with it feeling somewhat dazed, bewildered and confused. The answer to the question of "what just happened?" blurs into a strange mist of over the top animé style combat, shouting (lots of shouting), giant boobs and some of the bizarrest cutscenes you're ever likely to see.

The demo Capcom showed me today was no exception. The demo team prefaced it with the assertion that they were aiming to be "surprising and unpredictable" with the game. I wasn't quite prepared for how surprising and unpredictable the game would indeed be.

Starting with a scene in a hot spring between Asura and his former mentor Augus, the demo quickly proceeded to introduce a pair of large-breasted women who served sake to the pair. A quick-time event triggered, prompting Asura to stop staring at the girl's breasts.

There then followed what was essentially an interactive cutscene, with Asura drinking sake from a first person perspective while a series of bizarre events unfolded as he looked around. Each drink filled his "Burst" gauge a little further -- in regular gameplay, this is used to trigger over the top special attacks, but in scenes like this it's used to move the story along.

Triggering the Burst gauge here caused a scene so bewildering I can't even describe it, except that it involved breasts, violence and somehow ended up on the moon. Augus started talking at Asura, and a button prompt appeared on screen for Asura to "Shut Augus Up." Pressing it triggered another QTE and started off an anime-style combat sequence.

The fight was made up of a combination of regular character action gameplay (which actually formed the minority of it) and what Capcom called "marionette" events, where the dual analog sticks represent Asura's hands, and the player manipulates them in QTEs for various cool things to happen -- catching a blade that was sailing towards him, for example.
