In speaking to about the studio's upcoming game, Wilkinson says at least one Ubisoft Montreal animator is "busy making Altair even more beautiful," adding that the Assassin's Creed lead was learning how "to swim."

The statement is the first official confirmation that a sequel to Assassin's Creed is in development, however expected given the commercial success of the first game.

In June, Ubisoft president Laurent Detoc (via ) that Assassin's Creed wouldn't make a return until 2009 at the earliest, saying "when we bring it back, there will be more anticipation for it."

A release window for Assassin's Creed 2 was not mentioned. Prince of Persia will release on PS3, Xbox 360, and PC on December 2.
