As consumer sales decline, Dell sees silver in the cloud

17.05.2011
Due to a reporting error, the story, "As consumer sales decline, Dell sees silver in the cloud," posted Tuesday, mischaracterized the state of Dell's Q1 storage revenue. Revenue from Dell-owned storage technologies grew 11 percent during the quarter, but overall storage sales were down 13 percent. The story has been corrected on the wire, and an updated version of the story that does not contain the error has also been posted.

The second headline in the original story now reads as follows:

Q1 revenue growth was flat, with consumer sales down 7 percent; servers were up 11 percent

Paragraph five in the original story now reads as follows:

That strategy is now starting to pay off, company executives said in a press release. Dell's server and networking products revenue was up 11 percent for the quarter, as were sales of its Dell-owned storage products. With Dell selling fewer EMC-branded storage products, however, overall storage sales were down 13 percent.
